The Sacramento Chapter of The Links, Inc. sponsored its first Achievers Program in 1989. Plans are underway for the 22nd annual year. This program seeks to develop leadership skills and self esteem among program participants while providing regular interaction with African American role models and other young people.
The six-month program consisting of motivational workshops, community service, and cultural events culminates with "The Beautillion: An Affair of Honor" on April 10, 2010. At this event, the accomplishments of the Achievers are highlighted with scholarship and award presentations.
This program is open to African American male high school seniors or college freshmen who have demonstrated dedication to excellence in academic and community activities. Students are recommended by school counselors, community leaders, or Links members and must meet the following criteria:
- Completed application
- One written letter of recommendation
- 2.0 GPA and a current official transcript
- Payment of a participation fee
